ODD & RANDOM work
SCULPTURE: THE LAUGHING STALK
This piece was created as a maquette for a public art installation project that I am working on.
I threw it together between Christmas and New Years 2024. It is made from a bunch of random bits and materials I had laying around for a ridiculously long time. I used 20 year old Super Sculpy, didn’t think it would be any good but it worked fine (how’s that for a product endorsement)! The teeth are actual dental moldings of my own teeth epoxied to a piece of wire taken from an old election sign!
I entered it into the 50th Anniversary Members Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Algoma, which ran from February-March 2025. It was the freak of the show, I am happy!

ARTIST STATEMENT
As Jack climbed the beanstalk in search of his destiny, so do we all figuratively climb our own beanstalks toward our unique futures. This piece represents the contemplation and reflection of that metaphorical and symbolical climb for the artist. Awakening the understanding that the journey is always a struggle, the path is often irregular and precarious and that we must not lose our sense of humour along the way - remembering that the universe may sometimes laugh at us and sometimes with us, but we should always persevere with laughter in our hearts and a smile on our face!
Mural: northside volkswagen - ssm
I was contacted by an artist friend of mine who was asked by the local VW dealership to paint a mural in their customer vehicle delivery bay. He doesn’t do cars, I do and here is what happened…

Pristine white walls throughout the entire building, like a surgical suite!
Massive amount of prep work - basically had to create a spray booth as mural area open and connected to entire showroom!
It took an entire day, but spray booth complete. The mural was completed over a long Thanksgiving weekend (4 days).
Another shot of the organized “before”, by the time the mural was completed the booth had fallen down several times and there was inches deep overspray everywhere!
The final mural after everything removed. Client wanted a brightly coloured mural that pays homage to the brands heritage - I think they got it!
post script:
The creation of the paint booth was a life saver at clean-up time - everything was just rolled into a giant burrito, duck taped and deposited!
