sketch book - markers
I thought I would try out some Copic markers and see what I could do with them. Fun to play with, just make sure that you have several of the most used/needed colours! I ran out of several half way through and had to improvise. Colours are very vivid and intense - I like that!

sketch book - graphite
These sketches were a series of graphite studies of sculptures and artifacts that I had found interesting from various books on the subject. I like to use these resources as the lighting in the photographs is always dramatic and really provides great contrast and value range. A great way to keep your skills sharp!

sketch book - sharpie challenge
For this challenge I wanted to try and test my “eye balling” and decision making skills by creating a series of sketches using only Sharpies (fine and ultra fine). No pencil, no eraser, no rulers and an 1 hour time limit. Once the Sharpie hit the paper I was committed to the marks and had to make the best of it!
There was definitely some wonk going on and in some cases I subscribed to the mantra “when in doubt render it out” (i.e. over render) to try to save the sketch. This was a ton of fun and I found accuracy did improve as sketching progressed.
For the most part completed while watching TV, the majority of sketch subjects are from old movie poster and architectural books.
